The ongoing fighting in and around the Libyan capital of Tripoli has caused 167 civilian casualties, including 42 deaths, a UN spokesman said Friday.The figures only include those cases that could individually be verified, and must be considered minimum numbers, said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Some 94,000 people have been displaced as a result of the latest round of hostilities, he told a regular press briefing.

Humanitarian workers remain deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of some 3,700 refugees and migrants in detention centers that are already exposed to, or are located close to, active fighting. Many of the detention centers lack sufficient food, water and sanitation, he said.

UN secretary-general’s special representative for Libya Ghassan Salame on Thursday led a joint UN mission to Ghat municipality in southwestern Libya to survey the impact of the floods on the local community and determine what assistance is needed.

Heavy flooding in southwestern Libya since late May has displaced over 4,000 people and affected more than 20,000, said the spokesman.
