Indonesian authorities have issued a tsunami warning after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Molucca Sea between North Sulawesi and the Maluku archipelago late on Sunday.

U.S. Geological Survey say the quake struck 185 kilometers southeast of Manado at a depth of around 24 kilometers.

Indonesia’s geophysics agency has predicted waves of half a meter for parts of North Sulawesi and North Maluku.

The quake causes panic in the city of Ternate in the Maluku island chain, as people ran to higher grounds for safety.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries.
