At least 12 people were killed on Tuesday in a grisly road accident in Egypt’s Giza province, local Ahram newspaper reports.

The accident occurred when a truck transporting 17 workers to a factory in October City crashed with another one.

The truck carrying the workers is reported to have rolled over on the roadside.

Investigations into the accidents are on, as survivors continue to receive treatment in hospital.

According to the World Health organization (WHO), Egypt loses about 12,000 lives every year due to road traffic crashes. The North African country has a road traffic fatality rate of 42 deaths per 100,000 population. Majority (48%) of those killed are passengers of four-wheelers though pedestrians also constitute a significant proportion (20%) of these fatalities.
