An unknown number of people were shot or injured on Saturday following a mass shooting at the Cielo Vista shopping mall in El Paso, according to local media reports.
One of the outlets, KTSM, reported that at least 18 people were shot or injured but gave no confirmation of any fatalities or the extent of the injuries.
The El Paso Police Department said that the mall shooting scene is still active and have requested the public to continue to avoid the area after receiving reports of multiple shooters.
The police had tweeted that a shooter was in the area of Hawkins and Gateway East boulevards, where a Walmart store is located.
The police said they are conducting a search of a very large area following the incident which has elicited a response from several law enforcement agencies, including the FBI.
The Governor of Texas, Gregg Abbott, said local authorities are working with their federal counterparts to bring the incident to the swiftest & safest possible conclusion.
This is the latest incident of gun violence in the United States. On Tuesday, two people died and a police officer were wounded at a Walmart in Mississippi. The previous week, three people, including two children, were killed by a gunman at a food festival in California.
