Manchester City have beaten Liverpool in post-match penalties to win the 2019 Community shield at Wembley.

The Citizens had taken the lead early in the first half after former Reds player Raheem Sterling found the back of the net from close range.

Liverpool equalized in the 78th minute through a Joel Matip header, with the game ending level.

The game then proceeded into penalties, where Georginio Wijnaldum missed while All Manchester City takers found the back of the net to win 5-4.

The Community shield an annual football match played between the winners of the previous season’s Premier League and FA Cup. As Manchester City won both competitions in 2019, their opponents is the 2018–19 Premier League runners-up, Liverpool.
