Uganda’s football federation is looking for a new coach to take over management duties of the national side following the exit of Sebastien Desabre.

Desabre resigned in July following the Crane’s exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in the Round of 16 stage.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) said the new coach will not only be in charge of the national side, but also the under-23 side.

The federation’s chief executive officer, Edgar Watson, said the idea was to ease the development of players from one level to the next.

“It is senseless to have a 15-year-old player move to the under-17 team, then find a different coach, who would introduce them to a totally different philosophy. We want the development of players to be consistent and structured. It makes it easier for players to learn and develop in an identity,” Watson said.

FUFA also announced that it was looking for another coach to take charge of the under-20, under-17 and under-15 teams.

Desabre was appointed manager of the Uganda Cranes in December 2018.

He previously coached ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire), Coton Sport FC de Garoua (Cameroon), Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), Ismaily SC (Egypt), Clube Recreativo Desportivo Libolo (Angola), Dubai Club ( United Arab Emirates), JS Saoura (Algeria) and Wydad Athletic Club (Morocco.)

The new Cranes coach will take charge of the team’s CHAN qualifier games and the competition itself, which will be hosted in Cameroon in January-February 2020.
