Cote d'Ivoire singer Dj Arafat died on Monday aged 33 following a tragic accident.

The former disc jockey was admitted to hospital in the Cote d’Ivoire capital Abidjan with a fractured skull after his motorcycle collided with a car on Sunday.

Dj Arafat, whose real name was Ange Didier Huon, had was labelled the ‘king’ of coupé-décalé dance music, a popular genre that is common in central Africa.

The musician was well known for his love for motorcycles, and he even featured the on his most recent hit, Moto Moto, which was released in May.

Music lovers in Cote d’Ivoire have been sending their condolence messages to his family following his demise. The minister of culture Maurice Kouakou Bandaman expressed his condolences in a statement and said a tribute would be organized to honor the musician.

Other musicians have also been sharing their condolences, including Nigerian star Davido.

DJ Arafat scooped the 2016 and 2017 artist of the year award at the Coupé-Decalé Awards.

Coupé-decalé was born in the early 2000s during Cote d’Ivoire’s civil war. It quickly became the symbol of people wanting to have fun even in times of war.
