Tanzania will erect a monument in remembrance of the 71 people that were killed after a fuel tanker overturned and exploded on Saturday.

According to the country’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, the structure will be put up at the burial site of the victims.

Majaliwa said it will be erected once the remains of the victims have all been identified.

Burials are continuing following the deadly tanker blast which also left scores others injured.

Sixty bodies were buried on Sunday in a mass burial ceremony as the country comes to terms with the tragic event.

Reports indicate that the victims were trying to siphon fuel from the tanker after it overturned on a main road in Morogoro.

Following that incident, President John Magufuli said the government would foot the medical bills of the over 60 people that were injured in the explosion.

The explosion has prompted calls from some Tanzanians to have the government enact legislations to curb people from engaging in such acts in the future.

President Magufuli however while paying a visit to the injured victims in hospital said it was not the time to judge those caught up in the accident.
