Protesters have clashed with police outside the Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday as the troops sought to gain access into the facility.

The protesters have camped at the airport for five days, as the protests continue in their tenth week.

Earlier on Tuesday, Hong Kong airports authority suspended flights for a second day as the protesters denied travelers access into the facility.

Some Hong Kong residents have expressed their disapproval of the protests at the airport which have now rendered entry and exit from the territory impossible.

As the protests continue to rock Hong Kong, the territory’s chief executive, Carrie Lam, warned that violence was pushing Hong Kong in a dangerous direction. “Violence, no matter if it’s using violence or condoning violence, will push Hong Kong down a path of no return, will plunge Hong Kong society into a very worrying and dangerous situation,” she said.

She appealed to the protesters end their demonstrations in order to restore the calm that the territory enjoyed.

“Take a minute to think, look at our city, our home, do you all really want to see it pushed into an abyss.” Lam said.
