A female suicide bomber killed six people after blowing herself up in Chad on Wednesday, a senior officer said.

The woman detonated the explosives in the western Kaiga-Kindjiria district, an attack linked to Nigerian jihadists group, Boko Haram.

“Six people died, including a soldier,” the source who was speaking on anonymity said.

Kaiga-Kindjiria lies in Lac province, which abuts the vast Lake Chad — a region shared by Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria.

Boko Haram has waged a terror campaign in the Lake Chad region for years, killing tens of thousands and forcing millions of others to flee their homes.

The war began in Nigeria, but spilled over to the neighbouring countries, as the militants attempt to forcefully instill a jihadist rule.

Crashing Boko Haram remains a key focus of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, a feat he has previously expressed confidence that he will achieve.

Buhari is championing for a united force to tackle terrorism in the West African region. He has urged leaders from the Lake Chad region to commit troops to the fight against Boko Haram.

While the militants have been forced into hiding, they still manage to stage attacks occasionally.
