The Hong Kong police condemned radical protesters for committing violent acts at MTR stations
The Hong Kong police condemned radical protesters for committing violent acts at MTR stations, and called for members of the public to leave the scene.
Police officers sprung into action and arrested some of the offenders. Radical protesters vandalized the customer service center and damaged the ticket vending machines inside Mong Kok Station. They also assaulted members of the public and damaged properties inside Prince Edward Station, police said in a statement.
Masked rioters unleashed a fresh wave of violence on Saturday, beginning with a siege of the government headquarters and the legislature in Admiralty in the afternoon. The crowd hurled bricks and threw petrol bombs at the premises. Police fired tear gas and deployed water cannon to disperse the protesters equipped with metal rods and other offensive weapons.
Protesters then splintered westward to Causeway Bay and across the harbor to Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok, throwing petrol bombs and starting fires along the way.
The police on Friday banned a protest march planned from Chater Garden, a public park near the Legislative Council building, to the Liaison Office on Saturday.
