At least 15 people were killed on Sunday in the Malian capital, Bamako, after a three-storey building that was under construction collapsed, according to local media and government reports.
At least twenty six people, including a young girl, were rescued from the debris even as search and rescue operations continued.
According to local media reports, the building’s top floor fell onto the rest of the building leading to the entire structure collapsing like a house of cards.
Mali’s Ministry of Internal Security and Civil Protection said that an investigation into the owner of the building had been opened.
Building collapses are common in Bamako, one of the fastest-growing cities in the world, where a construction boom has driven many to be built without permits.
