Global news industry leaders meet in Beijing, discuss shared values

Leaders from some of the world’s leading news media institutions have gathered in Beijing for the 2019 Belt and Road Media Community Summit Forum.

Shen Haixiong, the Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee and the head of China Media Group(CMG) met with Reuters president Michael Friedenberg along with leader from the Associated Press. Attendees expressed their shared appreciation for universal journalistic values like truth, objectivity and fairness.Shen said China Media Group would work with Reuters to help report the news and guide global opinion.

Friedenberg stressed the importance that Reuters places on the Chinese media market and said his organization hoped to develop cooperative relations with China Media Group.

In meeting with the leadership of the Associated Press, Shen said cooperation with AP's global service had been fruitful and expressed hopes that it would continue.

Representative from the Associated Press used the opportunity to praise the recent strides made by China Media Group in quality and innovation, saying AP regards the CMG not as a rival but as a friend.

The summit was the third of its kind since the launch of the Belt and Road Media Community in 2016.

The forum aims to promote global cooperation across all sectors of the news industry.
