The African Union (AU) on Friday reiterated its deep concern on the seriousness of the current security situations prevailing in Libya.

The statement was made by the Peace and Security Council of the 55-member pan-African bloc on Friday, which followed the Council’s recent meeting that dwelt upon the current security situations in Libya.

The Council “reiterated its deep concern about the seriousness of the situation prevailing in Libya and its dangerous repercussions on the security and stability of the Region and the Continent as a whole.” the statement read.

The Council also stressed that it’s convinced of the need for an effective and urgent involvement of the AU in the search for a lasting political solution to the crisis in Libya, providing conditions for a dignified life and reconciliation to the Libyan people.

It also requested the AU Commission Chairperson “to play his role and to take the necessary and concrete measures, in close consultation with the UN, to ensure the effective involvement of the AU, with a view to resolving the Libyan crisis.”
