Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday commissioned three key infrastructural projects which he said will be a game changer in the country's transport sector.

Early Wednesday saw Kenyatta launch Nairobi highway express road followed by phase two of the Standard Gauge Railway in Suswa as well as the inland container depot terminal in Maai Mahiu.

This even as the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng reiterated the Chinese Government commitment to partnering with Kenya and other African countries in their development agenda.

"I highly appreciate Kenya's determination to promote infrastructure connectivity, under the guidance of H.E. Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda. This development path is a wise choice that has been proven effective by countless successful experiences around the world. Chinese Government is fully supportive to it, and Chinese Enterprises is truly honored to be part of it," he said.

"We keep our promise to deliver the Nairobi-Malaba SGR Phase 1 project on time, we encourage Chinese Enterprises to invest in Naivasha ICD and SEZ."

"China will continue to support Kenya in development projects as it aims at completion of SGR phase 2A," the Ambassador added.

He added that, indeed Kenya's neighbors have also expressed their interest in construction of dry ports in their jurisdictions.

"I want to thank the Chinese Government, China Roads and Bridges Corporation for being true friends of Kenya's development agenda," President Kenyatta said.

He said five years ago, the country faced serious congestion at the Port of Mombasa at the Kenyan coast, but with the SGR project and especially with the expected completion of Nairobi-Naivasha project, this will revolutionize the way business is conducted.

He said the blend of Road and Railway projects is geared towards complimenting one another. He further said the Nairobi Express Road has been designed and will be constructed, paid for and be maintained by the China Roads and Bridges Corporation. The Chinese corporation will be the concessionaire of the road for 30 years before handing it back to the government.

The Chinese diplomat in Kenya on his part added that these projects being undertaken through public private partnership are aimed at realization of Kenya's vision in terms of infrastructural development.

According to Kenyatta 60% of cargo converges in Nairobi which has seen congestion in Kenya's capital. And with these projects this is going to be a thing of the past. So far SGR has moved 3.5 million people and over 6 million tones of goods since the inception.
