Seven people were killed in a grisly road crash in near Kumasi city in southern Ghana, police said on Saturday, with an unspecified number of people sustaining injuries of various degrees.
The Friday night accident involved a state transport inter-city bus and another privately-owned bus.
A police report said one bus was overtaking when it collided with the other oncoming bus, claiming the seven lives.
"On reaching a section of the road between Ejisu-and-Konongo, the STC bus on its way from Accra to Kumasi overtook another vehicle, and in the process collided with the Temsa Imperial Express bus on its way from Bawku to Accra," it said.
The injured people were taken to a hospital in Kumasi for treatment.
Road accident are a major cause of deaths in the West African country. According to the country's National Road and Safety Commission, 1,252 people were killed in road crashes between January and June 2019, with 7,043 injuries recorded.
