The UN-backed government forces of Libya on Monday announced gains against their eastern-based military rivals in south of the capital Tripoli. That's according to a statement on the UN-backed government's official Facebook page.
"Our forces attacked positions of the militias of the war criminal Haftar (eastern-based army) in Al-Nahar and Khallat Al-Farjan areas (southern Tripoli), causing heavy losses to them," Mohamed Gonono, spokesman for the UN-backed government forces, said in the statement.
The statement said that three soldiers of the eastern-based army had been captured, along with a military vehicle.
"The heavy artillery of the Anti-Terrorism Force accurately targeted vehicles of Haftar's forces in Wadi Al-Rabee (southern Tripoli)." the statement said.
On Sunday, Gonono announced the capture of seven soldiers and the destruction of military vehicles from the eastern-based army in southern Tripoli.
The eastern-based army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been leading a military campaign since early April to take over Tripoli and topple the UN-backed government.
The armed conflict has killed and injured thousands of people, and displaced hundreds of thousands of civilians.
Libya has been plagued by insecurity and political division, ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
