Kenya's national men's sevens rugby team on Saturday qualified for the Rugby Sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo after winning the Africa Men's Sevens tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Kenya defeated neighbours Uganda 31-0 at the Bosman Stadium to qualify directly for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Kenya ran in five unanswered tries and kicked three conversions to seal an emphatic win.

Kenya and Uganda had advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Madagascar and Zimbabwe 40-14 and 21-12 respectively.

Runners-up Uganda and Zimbabwe, who finished third, will participate in a global repechage tournament that will take place in June 2020.

Zimbabwe, who were the defending champions, defeated Madagascar 24-7 in the bronze final.

Kenya joins South Africa, Africa's other representative, who qualified automatically for the Olympics by virtue of finishing as one of the top four teams at the end of the 2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Nine teams have now qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – Japan as hosts and the top four teams from the 2018/2019 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series (Fiji, USA, New Zealand and South Africa), while Great Britain, Argentina and Canada qualified through their respective regional qualification tournaments.
