Bolivia's Senate on Saturday approved a bill paving the way for fresh elections to be held, AFP reports quoting an official.

The bill is set to be sent to the country's lower house for another vote before it can be forwarded to interim President Jeanine Anez to assent to it.

The bill annuls the results of last month's election, allows for new elections to be held and prohibits candidates who served in both of the two previous terms from seeking re-election for the same position.

At least 32 people have been killed since violence broke out following a dispute in last month's election which former president Evo Morales claimed he won.

The Organization of American States found irregularities in the results of the election which culminated in Morales resigning and fleeing to Mexico.
