Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to inspire Leicester City to a 2-1 win against struggling Everton at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Iheanacho provided an assist for Jamie Vardy just six minutes after replacing Ayoze Perez to equalise in the 68th minute. Everton had led since the 23rd minute through Richarlison's header.

Fellow Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi made a powerful run from his half, found Iheanacho on the right and the 23-year-old in turn found Vardy with a low pass allowing the former England striker to score at the far post.

Iheanacho then completed the comeback with a dramatic winner in the 94th minute. Ricardo Pereira's through pass found Iheanacho in space before he turned a defender and slotted the ball into the net with his left foot.

There was an anxious wait as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) checked the goal but referee Graham Scott awarded the goal to Leicester because an offside was incorrectly flagged during the attacking phase.

The victory meant Leicester returned to second place in the league and cut the gap on leaders Liverpool to eight points. It also meant that the Foxes have won six successive Premier League matches for the first time in the club's history.

Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Iheanacho and the impact he had after coming on.

"I'm proud of the team. Just before we scored we started to break through. Kelechi Iheanacho coming on was big for us, I’m so happy for him.”

Leicester next plays bottom-of-the table Watford at home on Wednesday night.
