Several people are feared dead after a bus bound for northeastern Kenya was attacked by armed men, local Nation newspaper reports quoting police sources.
"I can confirm that a group of armed men ambushed a bus that was travelling to Mandera this (Friday) evening. We are yet to get information on the number of casualties," said Wajir County Police Commander Stephen Ng'etich.
Even though the attack was yet to be claimed by any groups at the time of reporting, Somalia-based al-Shabaab is suspected to have been behind it.
The al-Qaeda-affiliated militant group has previously staged many attacks in Kenya's northeastern region, killing hundreds of people.
The latest attack comes barely a month after al-Shaabab militia attacked Dadajabula Police Station in Wajir in an attempt to free two terrorists who were being held at the station.
Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers.
