South Africa's rugby sevens team on Saturday won the Dubai 7s following a 15-0 win against New Zealand in the Cup final at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

South Africa and New Zealand had qualified for the final following respective wins against Samoa (38-7) and England (12-19) earlier on Saturday.

The Blitzboks scored their tries courtesy of captain Siviwe Soyizwapi, Chris Dry and Seabelo Senatla.

"Such an amazing feeling just winning the trophy here in Dubai. It's been a long preseason working hard with the boys. Beginning of this week, we said we want to play as a team. I am really proud of the boys that we achieved that goal. Thank you so much for all the South Africans who flew out to Dubai to support us and really enjoyed the atmosphere out there," Soyizwapi said after the match.

Rosko Specman was named HSBC Player of the Final and was the only South African to be named in the HSBC Dream Team of the tournament.

The victory in the opening leg of the 2019/2020 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series means that the Blitzboks have won a 7th title in Dubai.

The Blitzboks also top the table after one round with 22 points ahead of New Zealand (19) and England, who finished third after defeating Samoa.

The next leg of the Sevens Series will take place at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town between December 13-15.
