Nigeria's air force on Wednesday confirmed that at least 30 Boko Haram militants were killed and their camp destroyed in a military operation in the country's northeast region.

The operation on Tuesday was targeted at selected locations in the northeastern state of Borno to further degrade the remnants of the terror group as well as deny them safe havens and freedom of action, the air force said.

Ibikunle Daramola, the spokesman for the air force, told Xinhua that structures destroyed in the operation include a Boko Haram "tactical headquarters" in Parisu, a town in Borno.

Another Boko Haram settlement in Garin Maloma, a town on the fringes of the Sambisa Forest, was also destroyed, Daramola said.

The northeast region has been destabilized for over a decade by Boko Haram, which most notoriously kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls in 2014.

Boko Haram is known for its agenda to maintain a virtual caliphate in the most populous African country.
