A woman has tested positive for coronavirus in Sweden, the country's Public Health Agency confirmed on Friday.

The woman returned to the country a week ago after visiting Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

According to local media, the woman had cough symptoms and contacted the Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping, in southern Sweden.

The woman, who has since been put in isolation, is not seriously ill, the health agency said.

The head of the microbiology department at the health agency Karin Tegmark Wisell said there was no cause for alarm following the confirmation adding that the situation was under control.

"One or a few cases is not unexpected given that we travel a lot and we anticipated that this could happen. We currently assess the risk of it spreading as very low based on experiences from other countries," Wisell said.

Local media also reported that the woman had not been in contact with anyone else since her return quoting an infectious diseases doctor in Jönköping.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday said that the novel coronavirus outbreak constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). However, the UN health body stressed that it does not recommend limiting trade and travel.
