Egyptian side Zamalek defeated Tunisian side Espérance 3-1 on Friday at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, to win the CAF Super Cup.

The CAF Super Cup is contested by the winners of the CAF Champions League and the winners of the CAF Confederation Cup.

This was the second consecutive time the Tunisians lost in the Super Cup after losing to Moroccan club Raja Casablanca 2-1 last year in March.

Youssef 'Obama' Fayed opened the scoring in the second minute for the Egyptians through a header and they went into the break with a deserved lead after an intense first half.

Espérance, who had a stronger second half, leveled the tie after the break when Abdelraouf Benguit tucked home a penalty nine minutes after the restart.

However, Espérance's joy lasted only four minutes as Achraf Bencharki restored Zamalek's lead.

Bencharki then sealed the win after he scored in the fifth minute of injury-time as Zamalek claimed a fourth CAF Super Cup following triumphs in 1994, 1997 and 2003.

Meanwhile, Espérance, who came into the match as CAF Champions League winners, has now lost four of its five Super Cup matches, with its sole victory coming in 1995.

This was the second CAF Super Cup match being staged outside Africa after the 2019 match was played at the same venue.
