Togo confirms first COVID-19 case

Togo has registered its first case of COVID-19, becoming the ninth country in the continent to have a confirmed case of the virus.

Health officials in the country announced the case on Friday, saying the patient is a 42-year-old woman who is a resident of the capital, Lome.

The patient is reported to have visited Germany, France and Turkey between late February and early March.

The authorities said the patient has since been isolated.

Africa now has 41 confirmed cases of COVID-19. The country's that have confirmed cases of the virus are; Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Togo.
