Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has tested negative for COVID-19.

The 64-year-old confirmed the test result on Friday via Twitter, dispelling fears that he may have contacted the virus.

There were fears that Bolsonaro may have contacted COVID-19 after reports that his communications secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, tested positive for the virus on Thursday.

The result was also confirmed by Eduardo Bolsonaro, the president’s son.

"Result of Jair Bolsonaro test for coronavirus it was negative," he said.
