Madagascar has confirmed its first COVID-19 cases.

President Andry Rajoelina announced on Friday that the three cases were confirmed the Institut Pasteur de Madagascar.

The southwestern African island’s announcement makes it the 38th African nation to record a case of COVID-19.

The island earlier this week suspended all international flights in a bid to prevent the entry of the virus into its borders.

Africa has reported more than 760 cases so far, as concerns grow over the spread of the virus.
