France says its COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 10,000 after a steep rise in nursing homes.

The country becomes the fourth country globally to record over 10,000 COVID deaths, after Italy, Spain and the U.S.

The rise in COVID-19 deaths in France comes after Health Minister Olivier Véran said the country is still "in a worsening phase of the pandemic."
