Ethiopia has confirmed eight new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total number to 82.

The new cases were announced on Tuesday by Minister of Health Lia Tadesse, who said five patients were Ethiopians, one Somali, one Eritrean and a last one was British.

The eight are aged between 16 years and 62 years.

Ethiopia is one of 52 African countries that have reported cases of COVID-19. Africa has reported close to 11,000 COVID-19 cases, with over 500 deaths. Over 1,000 people have recovered.

In Ethiopia, 3 patients have died from COVID-19 and 14 have recovered from the virus while two have been allowed to return to their countries.

Tadesse urged Ethiopians to adhere to the set guidelines aimed at curbing the spread of covid-19, including avoiding public gatherings during the Easter period.
