Somalia on Tuesday recorded the biggest daily jump with 73 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hrs. The country now has 237 infections. So far the country has recorded 7 fatalities with two people having recovered. The horn of Africa country has 14 Isolation facilities.

Most of the cases are in the capital Mogadishu but there are others from Somaliland, Kismayo in Jubaland, including one an internally displaced person (IDP).

The majority of the cases, including the first fatality, have no travel history signifying local transmission of COVID-19 and the UN Health agency, World Health Organization-WHO said further transmission of the virus can be expected.

There is an increased risk that cases may go undetected if community transmission begins and becomes widespread. The impact on the 2.6 million IDPs living in more than 2,000 crowded settlements with limited access to health and water, sanitation and hygiene services would be catastrophic.
