Kenya's COVID-19 cases have risen to 435 after 24 more people tested positive for the virus, the country's Ministry of Health announced Saturday.
This is the highest number of the coronavirus infections in a single day since the first case was confirmed on March 13.
Chief Administrative Secretary from the ministry of Health, Mercy Mwangangi made the announcement saying the 24 were discovered to be positive after testing of 1,195 samples in the last 24 hours.
She also announced that one more person had died in Mombasa, raising the country's death toll to 22.
The ministry further reported that two more patients had been discharged, raising the total number of recoveries to 152.
This even as the East African nation said they would use the Gilead's antiviral drug Remdesivir for treatment of the coronavirus patients after US regulators on Friday authorized its use.
US medical officials said there is evidence from a trial of the drug helped patients with serious cases of COVID-19 recover faster.
