U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson's senior adviser Dominic Cummings will not resign despite pressure to vacate his position after reports earlier this week that he breached government lockdown measures.

Cummings, travelled to visit his parents more than 400 kilometers from his London home after showing symptoms of coronavirus on the weekend of March 28-29.

"Is he going to resign?" BBC presenter Andrew Marr asked during an interview. "No," said Shapps.

After the revelations of his violation of the lockdown measures banning non-essential travel, several lawmakers from Johnson's Conservative Party called on Sunday morning for Cummings to quit.

While Cummings is known for his defiance of conventional wisdom as well as his propensity to upset the established order, the reports could put Cummings in a difficult position, as several other senior officials who had reportedly broken the lockdown rules were forced to resign from their posts.

The 48-year-old masterminded the successful campaign to leave the European Union in 2016.
