About 7,800 people have been forced to evacuate after a wildfire broke out in Cherry Valley, California, consuming some 12,000 acres.

A CNN report says the Apple Fire began Friday shortly before 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. ET) the fire department said.

Over 1,360 firefighters have been deployed to contain the fire, and as of Sunday morning 12% of the blaze had been put out.

Quoting a fire department spokesman, CNN reports authorities to have set up evacuation centers at local hotels and at Beaumont High School.
