The United States on Sunday reported 58,947 more COVID-19 infections, pushing the country's total tally to 4,601,526.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the new figures, also noting that the 1,132 new deaths had been recorded over the past 24 hours, taking the country's total number of fatalities to 154,002.

The U.S. is the world's worst affected country globally by the COVID-19 pandemic, having reported more than a quarter of the world’s total infections. The country's deaths account for 22.3 percent of the world's fatalities.

The U.S. is the only country in the world to have reported more than 100,000 COVID-19 related deaths.
