United States Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden will not travel to Milwaukee to accept his party's presidential nomination in person due to concerns over COVID-19, AP reports.

The 77-year-old will instead accept the nomination from his home state of Delaware.

The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to take place from August 17-20. U.S. media report that health officials urged the speakers of the event not to travel to Milwaukee due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This means that Biden, and his eventual running mate will not attend the Convention in person.

The reports are the latest and most telling signs that the Democratic National Convention may happen entirely online.

The U.S. is the worst affected country by the global pandemic, having reported more than 4.7 million infections and over 156,000 deaths.
