Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen stormed to victory in the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix on Sunday ahead of the two Mercedes cars, the first time a non-Mercedes car has won a race in the 2020 season.

While doing so, he spared a moment to send out a health safety message to his Red Bull team as he closed in on the checkered flag.

"Did you hydrate during the race?" he asked. "You must have some sweaty hands as well so don't forget to sanitize."

The elated 22-year-old produced a brilliant drive all through the race, at one point shrugging off advice from the Red Bull technical team to slow down a bit.

Verstappen cliched victory ahead of six-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Verstappen was the only driver in the top 10 to begin the race on the hard tyres, and the decision was validated soon after lights out as he cruised past Racing Point's Nico Hulkenberg to take position 3.

From then on, his chase of the Mercedes pair was well on.

The win was Verstappen's first victory since Brazil last year – and Red Bull's first at Silverstone since 2012.

Teammate Alex Albon also enjoyed had a good day on the track to finish fifth, having started the race on ninth position.
