Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reiterated his country's commitment to regional stability as the East African region continues its quest for lasting peace.

Abiy made the pledge on Tuesday following a meeting with Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok in Khartoum.

"The bonds of our historic ties are unbreakable. I reaffirmed Ethiopia's solidarity with Sudan to Prime Minister Hamdok in our discussions today. Our commitment to economic integration, joint progress and regional stability remains, as we explore opportunities to enhance bilateral ties," he wrote on Twitter.

Abiy's visit to Sudan comes on the back of the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Constitution Declaration, which he facilitated. The Declaration enabled the formation of Sudan's transitional government.

On his part, Hamdok emphasized the complimentary nature of both countries which compels them to work together for mutual benefits.

The two leaders pledged to settle any issued through continued dialogue and negotiations.
