Italy's former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has tested positive for COVID-19.
The 83-year-old has placed himself under isolation after receiving the test result, according to a statement by his staff.
Berlusconi served as Italy's Prime Minister in four governments but was banned from public office due to a 2013 tax fraud conviction.
He is expected to continue to contribute campaigning for candidates from his Forza Italia party at local elections scheduled for September.
Earlier this year, he joined other wealthy Italians in setting up a health facility in the Fiera Milano exhibition center to contribute in the country’s fight against COVID-19. He pledged 10 million euros (11 million U.S. dollars).
