The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Africa stood at 1,379,909 on Friday, as the continent continues to see a rise in its caseload.

The latest figures from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention also show that the continent has also reported 33,403 deaths so far.

South Africa is the worst-affected country on the continent, having registered 655,572 cases and 15,772 fatalities.

The figures represent 47.5 percent of Africa's caseload and 47.2 percent of its deaths.

Egypt is the second-hardest-hit country in Africa, having recorded 101,641 infections and 5,715 fatalities.

The two countries are the only ones in Africa to have registered more than 100,000 COVID-19 cases.

Further on, Morocco (94,504), Ethiopia (66,913) and Nigeria (56,735) are the only other African countries that have reported more than 50,000 infections.

In terms of deaths, Morocco (1,714), Algeria (1,654), Nigeria (1,093) and Ethiopia (1,060) are the only other African countries that have recorded more than 1,000 deaths besides South Africa and Egypt.

In better news, Africa has reported a total of 1,131,838 successful recoveries by Friday.
