Sweden's Armand Duplantis on Thursday set a new pole vault outdoor world record of 6.15 metres at the Diamond League event in Rome, Italy.

Duplantis broke the legendary Sergey Bubka's 26-year-old outdoor mark of 6.14 metres set in Sestriere, Italy, in July 1994.

He cleared the height with his second attempt after narrowly missing out the first time.

Duplantis already holds the indoor world pole vault record of 6.18 metres and the second highest vault of 6.17 metres which were set in Glasgow and Toruń earlier this year.

Duplantis has not lost since the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, where he finished in second place behind Sam Kendricks.
