A grand jury has indicted one officer on criminal charges, six months after Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old black woman, was fatally shot by police in Kentucky.
Taylor, an emergency room technician, was shot multiple times on 13 March by police who stormed her home during a narcotics investigation.
No drugs were found in the raid.
The shooting sparked anti-racial protests that lasted months as residents of Louisville demanded justice.
The protests were also endorsed by celebrities across the world, including NBA players. Earlier this month, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton also wore a T-shirt remembering Breonna Taylor, before and after the Italian Grand Prix.
Ahead of Wednesday's announcement by the grand jury, a state of emergency was declared in Louisville in anticipation of protests.
Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron is expected to hold a news conference to discuss the grand jury’s report.
