W.H.O. reports new record daily rise in global COVID-19 cases

The World Health Organisation on Thursday reported a new record one-day rise in global coronavirus cases.

The new total rose by 338,779 in 24 hours beating the previous record of 330,340 reported on October 2.

The three worst-affected countries globally reported the highest number of daily cases. India reported 78,524 new cases, followed by Brazil at 41,906 and the United States with 38,904 new infections.

A number of Western countries, particularly in Europe, are also facing a resurgence in coronavirus cases.

The number of deaths reported in the same period was 5,514 while the record of 12,393 deaths which was reported on April 17 remains.

Globally, there have been more than 36 million confirmed coronavirus cases and more than one million deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
