Sudan's Sovereign Council said on Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump officially signed a decision removing Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism.

"The announcement will be made soon," the sovereign council said in a statement, adding that "this is a historical day for Sudan and its glorious revolution."

Later in the day, the sovereign council said Sudan's exit from the list of states sponsoring terrorism constitutes a victory in the battle to restore dignity for the Sudanese people.

"This step is considered a major breakthrough for Sudan and its effects will be reflected on the overall political and economic situation in the country as well as Sudan's external relations," the statement said.

On October 19, Trump said he would remove Sudan from the list after Sudan pays 335 million U.S. dollars to American victims.
