The number of COVID-19 infections in Africa have surpassed the 1.87 million mark as various countries continue to report ballooning caseloads.
According to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the continent had recorded 1,870,348 confirmed cases by Sunday, with 44,849 deaths.
South Africa is the hardest-hit country by the pandemic in Africa, having registered 735,906 infections and 19,789 fatalities.
Besides South Africa, only two other countries on the continent have recorded more than 100,000 cases; Morocco 252,185 and Egypt 108,962.
Further on, a total of Nine countries have reported more than 60,000 COVID-19 cases.
In terms of deaths, eight African countries have reported more than 1,000 deaths.
The Africa CDC data shows that some 1,577,213 patients successfully recovered from the disease.
