The Group of Twenty (G20) will support African countries in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the group said in a final communique on Sunday.

South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa had implored the group to consider offering support for African countries and other developing nations that had been hit by the pandemic.

The G20 communique said the support to be offered will include exploring more sustainable financing options.

Debt relief for Africa will be an important theme of the incoming Italian presidency in 2021.

The group also reiterated its commitment to tackling climate change.
