'We will play football together in heaven,' says Pele
"I have lost a great friend and the world lost a legend," said Pele, a "great friend" of Maradona as both are considered two of the greatest footballers in history.
"There is still much to be said, but for now, may God give strength to his family members. One day, I hope, we will play football together in heaven."
'I keep all the beautiful momentes lived with him,' says Messi
"A very sad day for all Argentines and for football," wrote Lionel Messi on Instagram. Maradona was the coach for Messi during his Argentine national team period between 2008 and 2010 and hailed Messi as his successor.
"He leaves us but does not leave, because Diego is eternal," Messi continued.
"I keep all the beautiful moments lived with him and I wanted to take the opportunity to send my condolences to all his family and friends. RIP."
'An unparalleled magician,' says Ronaldo
"Today I say goodbye to a friend and the world says goodbye to an eternal genius. One of the best ever. An unparalleled magician. He leaves too soon, but leaves a legacy without limits and a void that will never be filled. Rest in peace, ace. You will never be forgotten," wrote Cristiano Ronaldo.
'Diego was a sensational guy, Maradona had some struggles, let me say it like this. I will miss both,' says Klopp
"It's like, I'm 53 years old and it feels like my entire life, he was part of it," said Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool.
"When I was very young – maybe eight or nine, 10 years old – I saw him for the first time and he was 16 or 17.
"In any video, juggling the ball, from that moment on he was the player for me.
"It's like, from an international point of view there's Pele, Maradona, Messi, if you want – one Brazilian and two Argentinians.
"I saw his documentary not too long ago; Diego was a sensational guy, Maradona had some struggles, let me say it like this. I will miss both."
"Rest in peace, legend of football," Neymar wrote.
