Africa's COVID-19 cases reach 2,163,284: Africa CDC

The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Africa stood at 2,163,284 on Monday, according to data from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

The data also shows that the continent has reported 51,708 deaths.

Various countries on the continent continue to register steady rises in their caseloads, though others have seen their virus numbers remain low.

South Africa remains the hardest hit country in Africa, having recorded 787,702 cases and 21,477 deaths.

The country accounts for 36.41 percent of Africa's caseload and 41.54 percent of its death toll.

Besides South Africa, the only other countries that have registered more than 100,000 COVID-19 cases are Morocco (353,803), Egypt (115,541) and Ethiopia (109,534).

The other side of the Africa CDC data shows that seven African countries have recorded less than 1,000 cases.

In terms of deaths, 10 countries on the continent have reported more than 1,000 COVID-19 related fatalities.

Some 1,831,435 patients have however recovered from the disease successfully.
