Africa's COVID-19 cases reach 2,389,975: Africa CDC

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 2,389,975 with a death toll of 56,647 on Tuesday, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

South Africa remains to be the hardest-hit country on the continent, having registered 866,127 infections and 23,451 deaths.

No other African country has reported half the number of cases or deaths reported by South Africa.

Morocco's 400,826 infections are the second-highest on the continent, while its 6,659 fatalities are the third-highest.

Apart from the two countries, the only other Africa states whose COVID-19 caseloads exceed the 100,000 mark are Egypt (122,086), Ethiopia (117,242) and Tunisia (111,758).

In terms of deaths, a total of 10 African countries have registered more than 1,000 COVID-19 related fatalities.

The Africa CDC data slow showed that some 2,024,010 patients had successfully recovered from the disease by Tuesday afternoon.
