South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met on Saturday with visiting Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Trshisekedi in Pretoria for bilateral talks.

The South African presidency said the meeting between the two leaders was aimed at exchanging views in respect of developments at a regional level, as well as discussing broad issues affecting the continent within the context of the African Union (AU).

It comes ahead of a scheduled handover of the AU presidency from South Africa to the DR Congo.

"The visit provides an opportunity to reflect on ways to advance the African Union's visionary and developmental Agenda 2063 and to enhance the two countries' strategic cooperation," said the South African presidency.

South Africa and the DR Congo are strong trade partners within the region.

South Africa's exports to the DR Congo in 2019 were valued at R15,2 billion, according to the South African presidency.

South Africa also has significant investments in the DR Congo, and the main sectors for investment are financial services, mining and related services, construction and property development, retail, supplier services to the oil, gas and mobile telephony industries, ICT security and guarding, logistics, and tourism and hospitality.
